Millwood Community Presbyterian Church
was organized in 1920 with 98 members.
On March 28, 1915, the residents of the Community of Millwood met at the Millwood School and organized a Sunday School with 47 members. The Sunday School was so successful that in 1917 a board was chosen to secure various ministries for preaching services.
In June 1918, Millwood became a mission for the First Presbyterian Church of Spokane. The Rev EA Wilson and Rev FA Heiber served the church for a short period and Rev Paul A Ratsch came in Oct 1919 as pastor. During his ministry the church developed and became an independent organization and member of the Spokane Presbytery in April 1920. Elders, deacons, and trustees were elected and 98 charter members were received.
The Millwood Presbyterian Church was deeply connected to the mill and is still a vital part of Millwood's community. Not only were most of its members mill employees, but the church itself was built on land donated by the Inland Empire Paper Company. Also, the church's cornerstone was donated by the company and placed in the foundation in the fall of 1923.
. A west wing was added in 1927 and a pipe organ was installed ten years later. Add-ons to the structure were built throughout the 40s and 50s. Millwood Community Presbyterian Church still holds services weekly and stands as a link to Millwood's history.
